About Us

Compass Consulting Engineers Ltd. is owned and managed by Steve Walsh BEng MEng CEng MICE

I am a Chartered Civil Engineer with over 30 years’ professional experience, working predominantly within the consulting engineering sector.

My career has included senior roles on major water infrastructure projects, facilities management for defence estates in the UK and overseas, and the management of inspection and assessment programmes for large portfolios of transport structures, including work for Railtrack and London Underground. Since 2003, I have been based in the South West, providing civil and structural engineering services to a wide range of clients.

My current work encompasses civil and structural design, inspections and appraisals, foundation and retaining wall assessments, subsidence investigations, and technical reporting in connection with insurance and legal matters. I am known for providing clear, independent and proportionate advice, grounded in extensive practical experience and sound engineering judgement.

For homeowners, I understand that structural concerns can be worrying and unfamiliar. My approach is to explain issues clearly, avoid unnecessary complexity, and provide straightforward advice you can act on with confidence.
